Created by Matt Booth and Justin Andrews, the Extra Chido line uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and a filler that includes multiple Nicaraguan tobacco primos from ASP, as well as Dominican Pilot aged in thirds. Thirds are a way of wrapping raw tobacco leaves inside real palm leaves as a method of aging the tobacco. The end result resembles a crudely wrapped gift, with the palm leaves pressed tightly against the tobacco leaves. General Cigar Co. and EP Carrillo are the only two companies that consistently talk about using thirds, so it’s unclear how prevalent their use is. Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr. worked for General for a decade before launching EP Carrillo.
